Why Brittany for Optics?




    Brittany has a long tradition of leading edge research, product development, and manufacturing in optics. For more than forty years, CNET now named France Telecom R&D, the largest French telecommunications research center , was a mainstay of the Brittany economy.

    The CNET expertise led to the growth of several large companies, as Alcatel, that used optical technologies for telecommunications applications. More recently, small companies have been forming to address important niche markets.

    With eight universities completing this cluster and offering specialities in optics and optoelectronics related areas, Brittany has the educational resources to provide advanced research and well-educated employees for the Brittany optics industry.
